About the class:Teen zine club is a dedicated space and time for kids to focus on expressing their ideas visually. Available materials include markers, pens, collage, paints, and a copier. Kids can make a book that tells a story, or make a group of drawings, a calendar, a cookbook, a coloring book, a sketchbook etc. We will look at recent and historic feminist zines for inspiration. We will take breaks outdoors at Strawberry Creek Park and do some drawing outside if the weather permits. Sliding scale available. All materials included.
What are zines?
A zine can be a small booklet or even just a folded piece of paper that can include text, images, artwork, found objects, or any other creative materials. It can be a mini comic book like Raina Telgemeier started out with before she moved to graphic novels. It can be an art object that only contains images. It can be reproduced and shared with friends or even sold - a copier is available for kids who want to distribute their zines to friends. We may even be able to have a table at an upcoming art book fair where kids can share their work with a wider audience (totally optional!!)
