Berkeley Painting Club - Teen Fashion Drawing & Illustration
Teen Fashion Drawing & Illustration focuses on drawing clothing and developing original fashion designs. Students learn to accurately draw the shapes, silhouettes, folds, and details of clothing, while using colored pencils and alcohol markers to mix and layer color and create different textures and effects. Through demonstrations and drawing from photos and models, they explore strategies for representing fabrics such as denim, knits, leather, and more, then apply what they learn to their own clothing and fashion design drawings.
For most projects, students can draw their own figures or work from fashion figure templates, making it possible to focus on clothing and design at a range of drawing levels. Structured projects introduce specific approaches to drawing and illustration before moving into more independent work, giving students room to develop their own designs and individual approach. No experience is required—just an enthusiasm for drawing, fashion, and making your own designs!
Taught by Amy Morrell, an illustrator and designer withover 20 years experience teaching life drawing and fashion illustration, including 16 years at California College of the Arts, as well as teaching at San Francisco City College and Apparel Arts. She has advised students on numerous college-level senior portfolios and national competition entries. Amy is also the founder and designer of Water Sand Stone, a jewelry line centered around finding balance in natural opposition.
